Overbooked Flights

It’s a busy week in the airport. A lot of people are traveling these days as Chinese New Year is fast approaching. People travel to visit their family or loveones and some go out of the country for family gateway. Singapore Airlines flights were fully booked that made the queue strikingly longer than usual but however we cleared the line fast enough but still some passengers became impatient and came to our counter already upset and mad. A lot of different cases we handled during check-in from visa – to excess luggage – to special assistance – to seat problem. But we managed to handle everything.

image

Not only Singapore Airlines got a busy flights also other airlines. British Airways which is a partner of Singapore Airlines oversold one of their flights going to Christchurch that caused them to last-minute transfer few passengers on our flight using Flight interruption Manifest (FIM) or paper ticket. I handled two of them which was a couple. Check-In was about to close in few minutes time when transferred passengers came to my counter. Our flight was full. I didn’t manage to seat them together for there were only three empty and beside separate seats left on the flight. The couple released all their disappointments and anger to me. It’s their honeymoon trip and I understand their feelings and I feel sorry for them. But nothing I could do however I sent a request to the staff at the boarding gate to try to ask other passengers to swap seat to one of them so they could seat together.

Airlines are authorized to overbook flight to compensate for “no shows.” Passengers are sometimes left behind. But airlines don’t wait for “no show” passenger. Before the flight closed they find way during check-in by seeking volunteer passengers, who are not in a hurry to give up their seat and to fly on the next available flights or to transfer to other airlines with exchange compensation. Denied Boarding Compensation (DBC) could be money, upgrade on upper class to other flights or to their next journey, travel voucher, hotel accommodation for the passengers flight transferred on the next day and  etc. But let’s say the airlines cannot find volunteer or enough volunteer to exit the flight and if everybody show up,  in that case, the last passengers to report will be forced, involuntarily transfer to the next available flights or to other airlines but with compensation as well.

So when you are traveling and you know it’s gonna be a busy flight then secure your seat. If you are traveling with family or infant arrange your seat ahead otherwise you will be separated or you wont get a bassinet seat or your requested seat (window/aisle), check-in online and report to the counter early. Take note of your baggage allowance if you don’t want to pay excess.

Remember the Airline made the overbooking and not us so please be good to the check-in staff :).

Make other people’s lives Beautiful!

1548191_632436156793337_948655070_oIt’s a heart day!

Many people around the world celebrate “Love” today. It doesn’t have to be for Lovers. Everyone can celebrate all kinds of love. It could be the love we shared with our family or friends. But the highlight of this special occasion are the “Lovers.” Mostly couples are the one who celebrate valentines day. There are many different ways to celebrate the romanctic day just like giving valentine’s card, chocolates, flowers, gifts to their partners or admirers. Some people go out for a romantic dinner date or watch tc helicon voicelive play and some may choose the date to propose for marriage just like what my boyfriend did.

Exactly one year today my boyfriend for two years and half unexpectedly and surprisingly proposed a marriage to me. It all happened in my work place. It was almost midnight when He rang me up asking me to wait for Him for he’ll gonna fetch me at work. It sound so unusual to me as it was very late at night and He just got home and tired from work but still I was clueless. I’d just thought it was just a typical date – for valentines. He showed up infront of my counter when I was about to finish my work and gave me a bouquet of flowers. After my shift, we went to a famous fastfood restaurant which was the only store open at that time. We ate and talked. He seemed nervous. He kept asking me questions about us which I felt weird as we don’t usually talk that much about us. I kept using my phone while he kept talking until he took my phone away before I realized He was serious. In the middle of our conversation, He just took out the “ring” on His pocket and asked me the question “WIll YOU MARRY ME?” Oh, what a beautiful gift. Tears fell down on my cheeks for happiness and so as his. He later revailed that to all He used to be girlfriends here abroad I was the only one He introduced to His family and I am lucky I get close to them.

I was really surprised. I didn’t expect that He would propose to me. But anyway, I said “YES!” It wasn’t the first time I got engaged. God allowed me to experience heart breaks for my own goodness. A heart break is just a blessing and protection from God. It is just His way of letting me realized that He saved me from the wrong one. God really loves me. God is an awesome God. He heals heartbreaks and if He lets someone we really love leaves and breaks our hearts, He is preparing a place for someone else to stay in our hearts, someone from God, someone who is better in every aspects than that person who leaves. Let just have faith and trust in His masterplan for us and wait patiently.

We are now one year engaged. Thanks God. We choose a long-term engagement. It’s not about needing to get married that instant as long as we know what we want, we have the same plans and common goals with our future together that what matters right now.

But I can’t wait and I’m excited to the day when everything is right for us, in God’s time and in God’s will we’ll make our vows in the altar.

Life is beautiful!

Welcome 2015!

Everyone around the world were all busy welcoming the New Year. Some people celebrate New Year’s Eve by holding a party, some attending midnight church services, some gather at home to see loved ones that haven’t seen for a long time and to have fun together, while others prefer to gather around in public venues to countdown and watch the fireworks display.

Being an Overseas Filipino Worker, it is the best time for us to go home  as our family tradition we make Holidays and special occasions our family reunion.  But sad to say, I wasn’t able to come home for some reasons. I had no annual leave left and besides the airfare cost was tripled and so I decided to stay though I really wanted to. I get a bit emotional but I still chose to celebrate New Year’s Eve happily and full of positivity, for good vibes for the new year. I spent my New Year’s Eve with my special someone and friends. We cooked and ate dinner together in our flat then went to Marina Bay Sand Hotel to countdown to New Year’s Day.

We came down from the house to go to the countdown venue around 23:00hrs. For my almost four years stay in Singapore it was my first time going out to countdown & watch fireworks display. I never expect that would be so crowded that even exit doors were being used by the people to go in to the venue. The most famous and biggest hotel in Singapore filled with a huge crowd, could not even drop a single needle on the ground for being so congested. We reached just on time, the fireworks just started. We couldn’t get in so we just stayed in the area where we get stucked and listened to the fireworks sound and noise of the crowd. We haven’t seen the fireworks clearly but still it made our New Year’s Eve happy. We headed home right after the fireworks display. The trains were also so full. Some of us get lost in the crowd but we managed to catch up each other at the last train station. It was one of a kind experience for me. I just realized that it was so scary if any panic broke out in that crowd, it would have been a disaster. Stampede can happen. Thanks God nothing happened that night and that we all reached home safe and sound.

I get tired from the event so I got up in bed so late but I made it sure not to waste the very first day of the year. It’s a new year and we better get a new start and so it is, my first step to HEALTH this year. I did some exercise to bring in a healthy, happy and peaceful new year. Health is Wealth.

These filled the first blank page of my new year a good one.

Happy and prosperous New Year to all! Cheers!

Christmas at Changi Airport

Changi International Airport (Singapore) is the no.1 Best airport in the world. Changi Airport serves more than 100 airlines. It is the main stopover point of  many airlines connecting Singapore to over 60 countries worldwide with over two million passengers annually. Changi Airport is a huge airport, very clean, organized and has incredible facilities and amenities like butterfly Garden, Sunflower Garden, rooftop pool, movie theaters, hotels, spas, and even a children’s playground including four-story slide. Changi airport is also an Airport Mall with lots of shops and boutiques, supermarket, restaurants and more. No surprise Changi Airport took the number one spot for the best and most awarded airport in the world.

The Airport has three interconnected terminals that are accessible by skytrain. And aside from the 3 terminals, there is also a special terminal for Low Cost Carrier Airlines which called “Budget Terminal” that is under renovation right now. And rumors says another terminal is coming up. Changi Airport never stops upgrading the airport to give best experience for the travelers during their stop at Changi.

Every year Changi Aiport is following it’s popularity of celebrating every holiday seasons just like (Chinese New year-for Chinese, Hariraya-for Malay, Depawali-for Indians and Christmas for Christians). But Christmas year-end celebration is the most exciting one because of it’s inspired Theme. And this year I salute the Theme idea – World Disney.

Traveling during holiday season especially when you are alone is quite depressing. But Changi airport is making ways to delight passengers and make you feel the festive season even though you are away from home.

Just like the Magical Winter Wonderland in the Departure Hall of terminal 3 brings happiness to its passengers and visitors. Make every passengers forget their stress and loneliness.

The Christmas Snow Globe

It attract passengers and visitors with its dazzling decorations display and amazing “light & Sound with storyline Show” with snow flakes droplets. The show plays every hour start from 05:00pm ’till 09:00pm (weekdays) and (weekends) hourly from 01:00 pm to 03:00 pm then 06:00 pm to 09:00 pm .

Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse

No need to fly to Disneyland to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They are at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Hall delighting passengers. Everyone – kids, adult, gentleman, lady, grandma, grandpa and business man couldn’t resist of not taking pictures when seeing them. Mickey & Winnie are seem real having a big concert where people are get entertained.

Changi Airport never runs out of idea. Every year different inspired themes. I’m am lucky and honored to be a part of changi Airport. For almost four years now my life revolves only at Changi Airport and I’m happy proud and happy working at Changi!  I love Changi.

Here is a short video for you. Enjoy watching!!!

“I’m glad I’m a Christian, I’m serving the Lord. I’m reading my Bible, believing His Word. My sins are forgiven, From sin I am free. The mansion in Heaven is waiting for me.”

That is my Grandmother’s favorite song. My Grandmother has a big happy family. She is  blessed with 10 children, 83 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She is now 87 years old and we thanked God for she reached in this age and we’re continue praying for her a healthy longer life.  At her age, she never gets tired nor weary serving God. She is still active going to church, reading bible and singing praises to God.  And take note, She  still has so many memory verses (more than me 😦 ).

She is great example, she’s an inspiration. Her life is a blessing to all of us. Her life reminds me to focus on God and not on Earth. She made me realized that happiness is not all about money, material possessions or whatever pleasures world can give or money can buy. We can’t take anything with us when we leave. It is all just temporary, it maybe give satisfaction but not happiness. Happiness is to have a large, caring and loving family, being of service to others and touch lives and serving God. It is so nice to be happy always especially to be happy with the happiness of God.

Happy Birthday to you my dear precious and beautiful Grandmother -Ponciana Varquez Elardo. I may not be by your side celebrating your special day with you…but am celebrating it with you in my heart. …You are always in my thoughts and prayers, Nay. Sorry for the lost time. I will make it up with you. Thank you for being a great and loving grandmother to all of us. I owe to you my mom. One of your beautiful reflection. I love you so very much.

God bless you and keep you always! Your life is so Beautiful!!!

Another Birthday!

10301441_737050636331888_2375463141120435782_nI can’t believe one year has passed…

Another year older, another year wiser. Aging is a privilege. I will embrace the joy of growing old gracefully. We will all get there 🙂

God is so faithful to me & will always be even though I’m not faithful to Him. I am so blessed because God chose my mom to be the instrument to bring me into this world. ( I’m lucky to have a mom like Her). I’m so thankful to God for giving me another year of life, for the pain, trials & challenges that i have encountered & surpassed over the year, for giving me good health, for His guidance & protection, for my job, for my family & for all the blessings He bestowed upon me.

Thank you to all who greeted & sent their birthday wishes on my birthday. To my family who always make me feel their love even they’re miles away, to my special someone who made time out of his busy schedule to celebrate my birthday, to my relatives, friends & colleagues who flooded my Facebook wall with birthday greetings. And to my housemates who surprised me with a very delicious cake. Thank you so much guys. I appreciate it so much. It means a lot to me.

My only wish is…
May God continue to bless my family with good health specially to my Parents & Grandma. And comfort, safety & protection to everyone esp to my sisters abroad. Love, joy & peace.

I don’t know whats in store for me in the coming year but I don’t have to worry because I know He holds the future, my future. Everything is under His control.

“In the end, it’s not the years in our lives that counts, it’s the life in our years” (Abraham Lincoln)

Bangkok, Thailand Tour

Working abroad is not easy. We need to have good work-life balance especially when you are away from your family. We must always remember that we don’t live to work but we work to live, to have life, to enjoy life but sometimes we get so caught up in work that we forget about our lives. But not for us…

Me and my friends/colleagues (Aby, Bryan and Jenny) decided to make a tour together at Bangkok, Thailand. After we decided we immediately booked our Hotel & Tickets @ Dailyn’s Travel and Tours. Everything was set and ready.

Our flight was at night but I still managed to work in the day time. From Singapore to Bangkok the flight took 3.35 hours. We took Jet Star with the flight no. 3K-509. We reached at Suvarnabhumi Airport midnight and right away we looked for a Tour Agents to booked for a tour for us the very next morning. We met two Filipino Tour Guides and they have convinced us that they have the best tour packages and services offered and so we hired them. They speak Thai language fluently. We felt comfortable and we trust our “kabayan” (countrymen) more than other foreigners.

First Day of Tour: Sawadika Thailand

Since we had only 4 days and 3 nights Trip. We made a whole day tour. We’ve been to so many beautiful places in Bangkok in one day. Our Tour guides brought us first to…

Dusit Palace Bangkok :

IMG_4300A European style and built between 1897 and 1901. This is the residential Hall of Royalties visiting Bangkok and the Exhibition of Royal Ceremonial Photography. The Dusit Royal compound comprises 20 separate buildings of historical, art and architectural interest which some are open for public view. But unfortunately, it seemed there was an event going on inside so they close the main entrance for the main time. So we didn’t get the chance to have a look inside.

Right after a short stop and taking pictures of the Mansion, we proceeded for our City Tour.

Grand Palace

IMG_4323IMG_4328One of the most popular tourist attraction in Thailand. It is located in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. This is the official residence of the Kings of Siam but now Thailand since 1782. The palace is so nice with a marvelous and unique architectural designs. The Grand Palace has an area of 218,400 sq. meters and is surrounded by walls. Within these walls are situated government offices and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha. It’s a sacred place for Thai, a strict dress code applied. Visitors must be properly dressed before entering the area of the Grand Palace. We were not aware of that. We went in with shorts and sleeves so guards didn’t allow us to enter and told us to borrow a shirt and long pants in the first building on the right side after entering the main gate. It’s for free but must have to leave a deposit, which will be returned when all the items are returned. If you are not comfortable to wear the borrowed shirts, you can rent or buy clothes in some shops on the opposite side of the main gate. It is always best to research or to check first the rules and policy of ones place before going to avoid disappointments or avoid any problems. We decided not to enter inside the palace to save time for the other tour.

Wat Pho Bangkok – Temple of Reclining Buddha

The highlight for most people visiting Wat Pho is the Reclining Buddha which is 15 meters tall, 46 meters long and is covered in gold leaf, the Buddha’s feet are 5 meters long,  so large it feels like it has been squeezed into the building. There’s an entrance fee cost 100 Bht. A long dress (like abaya) will be given to wear and must take off the shoe to enter

IMG_4373  IMG_4375

It is also worth taking a look round the rest of the temple.

_MG_4389 _MG_4333

We finished the City Tour and it seemed like everyone enjoyed the sight-seeing that we didn’t notice it was already late in the afternoon. Our tour guides drove us then to Ayutthaya.

Ayutthayah

It’s 1.30 hours drive from Bangkok. We were sleepy, tired and hungry so we all fell asleep in the car until we reached there. Immediately we ate in a restaurant which is famous of serving local delicacies. We tried local foods and oh it’s too spicy but so yummy. The first time I tasted Tom Yum Soup (Spicy Shrrimp Soup), Som Tum (Spicy green papaya salad), Pak Bong (Morning Glory) and more.

_MG_4414 _MG_4419

The Restaurant is along the river. I like the view but not the smell.  My overall dining experience wasn’t that good though foods was delicious. I found the place a bit dirty and  lack of sanitation and Hygiene.

We got recharged and we’re back to our lives again 🙂 so we went on with our tour….

Once in Ayutthaya, the first stop on our expedition is  Wat Maha That or the “Monastery of the Great Relic”  The Unesco World Heritage site of Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya was a thriving Siamese kingdom from 1350 until 1767, when it was captured by the Burmese. Today, Ayutthaya is known for its spectacular ruins and temples.

_MG_4618 _MG_4603

The Head of the sandstone Buddha image / Oldest Thai House

Dozens of Buddha statues within the temple were beheaded. Conjecture might be that one of the heads ended up next to the Bodhi tree. While taking picture due respect to the Buddha image you have to stay at the same level or lower than the head at all times.

_MG_4531 _MG_4493

Elephant Riding

Another activity that’s worth considering is Elephant Riding. Never have thought elephants can be trained so well to do so many things, like dancing, hugging, smiling and asking Tips. Such a very sweet and lovely animal.

_MG_4485_MG_4441

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet Temple

It has been registered as a national historic site. The palace contained three wooden buildings. It served as a model for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.

The weather was bad, the rain pummeled down but still the tour must go on..Rain or Shine (lol).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Floating Market

IMG_4774 IMG_4737Is a market where goods are sold from boats. One of the well-known and an attractive travelling sites in Ayutthaya. Everything you will find here particularly foods, fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, we haven’t see any vendor rowing their boats in the river to sell goods because the rain poured down so heavily and it took for a while before the rain stopped. While we get stucked by the rain, we utilized our time by shopping around the corner, bought some souvenirs, ate local sweets and bottle fed baby fishes. We had so much for the day. When the rain stopped we started our way back to Bangkok. It was such a very long day but we had so much fun and adventure.

 Day Two: Malls/ Night Market

1619600_729892133714405_4691453520131210686_n

It was not that obvious that four of us got so tired from the tour the other day. We woke up so late in the afternoon. We just had half day left to explore on our second day.  It’s has been agreed that we will just do Shopping for the rest of the day. So we visited the famous Tourist Malls and Night Market in Bangkok like Platinum Mall, Chatuchak Market, MBK Shopping Center, & Siam Square Mall. And we also met Bryan’s Thai  friends who become our new friends. After shopping we went to Kao San to chill.

  Kao San Road

10426289_729902383713380_8632687375083103485_nIt is a small road in central Bangkok, Thailand. There are Hotels, Shops, Restaurant in the area. Khaosan shops sell handcrafts, paintings, clothing, exotic foods, plus many useful backpacker items and souvenirs. During late evening, the streets turn into bars and music is played, food hawkers sell barbecued insects, exotic foods for tourists that if you take pictures of it you will be charged 10-15 Bht . We roamed around, shopped and ate. We have tried to eat one the barbecue insects and the taste was so awful. For so many hours of keep walking, our feet and body deserved a relaxing Thai massage (the best massage ever) so we had a thai massage and after, we end up sitting down in the bar to unwind. Second day wasn’t so good and enjoyable for me. My mood changed when I got bad blister on my foot that burnt my foot. And due to our different behavior and attitude and stress a small Conflict occured in our group. Conflict is a part of life and we cannot avoid it. And lastly, our small group got divided, splitted up and I admit I felt out of place. But overall, I was happy and alright. No big deal!

Day Three – Homeward Bound

IMG_4828It’s going Home time. Goodbye Bangkok for now.  See you again soon. Khob Khun! Life is Beautiful!!!<<

Chinese Ghost Month

Ghost Month or also commonly known as “Hungry Ghost Festival” is the month for Chinese to pray and make offerings for the souls of their loveones who passed away, just as Christian Catholics have “All Souls Day” during every month of November. In Chinese tradition the 7th month of Lunar calendar which is August is the “Ghost Month” and the 15th day of the seven month is the “Ghost Day” which deceased believed to visit the living as the “gates of hell” are opened and free the ghost to roam around the Earth.

During the festival numbers of large paper bins are seen along the roadside for the believers to use for their traditional rites just like “worshipping the spirit” by burning incense and joss sticks, burning paper money which they believe would give fortune in the afterlife and offering a prayer and array of foods like (Orange, rice, Chinese cake which is especially made only  for the occassion and etc.) to the hungry ghost.

101925758-HungryGhosts.530x298

I got invited for a Hungry Ghost Dinner and Auction. It’s another way of celebrating the festival. It was a dinner and auction of chinese stuff which attended by an employees of a known company here in Singapore. It was enjoyable but quite embarrassing moment for me. I forgot it was a Chinese dinner party and there were no spoon and fork served on the table and I never ever used chopsticks in my entire life before. I don’t know how to use them and I had no idea of the proper etiquette of using it. I feared I might offend them and I was scared might I mess up and drop the foods on the table or on my dress. I didn’t want to look funny to everybody and I didn’t want to embarrass the people who invited me. Thanked God I managed to  eat the delicious foods by the helped of my kind companion (whom I consider as my big sister here in Singapore) by putting foods on my plate :)… It was so shameful.

A complete dinner meal were served that begins with a hot soup, followed by a fresh fish, meat, vegetable and seafoods for main course and dessert and tea/coffee afterward. I didn’t know the exquisite names of the dishes but I have to say it was one of the best meals I have ever had. It was extraordinary and unusually different. Apart from how the foods tasted, the presentation of the dishes themselves were eye-catching, I was impressed.

I salute you

I salute to all overseas workers who sacrificed a lot for the sake of their families and loved ones. It’s not all about the salary or the ‘money’ that they will get but the feeling of self fulfillment to be able to live alone, to grow in maturity and make some major decisions in life, living a life opposite to what they used to live with their family, and exercising the motto of ‘no cook, no eat’ policy.

I have lots of colleagues who are now working abroad and I felt envy for sometimes because twas my long dream to work abroad, proving to them and to my self that I can do it, but due to some major decisions in life that I have made, the direction of the wind turned to different side. I got married and now a mother of a 4 years old little, naughty girl which I don’t regret even a little. She’s my crown and my priceless treasure.

Though  It is already hard for me to leave and work in other country, but if given a chance I would still want to go abroad and work for my family.
