Ladies in action

Few days ago, we went to the Bible School and we saw a group of musicians there, what made me amazed and appreciated the band was because they are all ladies in action, very seldom in the church that ladies are in the music ministry, the lead guitarist was amazing, it looks like professionals, beside it the cool Bass guitarist, with a lively drummer at the back, the keyboardist was like professional at the same time leading the songs. I was thinking might be later on, my little girl will be part of the team. Hopefully and praying for it.

The Concert

I watched concert for the first time ever. It’s not that I have agoraphobia but as much as possible I avoid going to crowded places. I just feel so uncomfortable and scared might there could be a disastrous turn of events like fire, fights or bombing. We all know crowded places are the favorite places of terrorists. And aside, I hate that feeling when you trapped along with the noise of the crowd and even smell people’s odor – sweats, underarms, breath and cigarettes. And I dont really like it when the show is over and the crowd began to gather in exit and pushing people towards the front that may cause people be stamped, trampled or injured. And  include the traffic in the hassle list.

But eventhough,  this time, I went to watch the concert of Backstreet Boys with my friends because it’s for free :). My friends got an access to the venue.

Backstreet Boys is a famous American Vocal Group back in 1995, if I am not mistaken. They are known as the best-selling boy band in history. Backstreet Boys brought their In A World Like This Tour to Singapore. They performed at The Star Performing Arts Centre, 1 Vista Exchange Green Singapore. The concert already started when we came. We only stood far behind as we didn’t pay for a chair. The venue was so full and I can see how the fans blown away seeing their favorite band artists performing live. When the lights were on and band instruments started to play fans started shouting and yelling everynow and then. I’m not much of a music gal, I know just a few songs of them but I like the band in general. I heard their international hits like “I Want It That Way”, “Larger Than Life”, “Shape of Your Heart” and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely”. Me and my friends didn’t stay that long as we avoid the big crowd on our way out. It was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the night.

Seeing an artist perform live is so much different than listening to a studio recording. It made me appreciate their music and their talent a lot more. But for me, it’s not worth it paying too much on a concert tickets especially when you are in a back row. It seems you are just watching on the big television at home, it is just only you see the actual happenings. You can’t even see the artist’s faces clearly.

Congratulations to my little brother who just graduated from college with the course of “Aircraft Maintenance Technician.” He is the youngest in our family. How time flies so fast. I can’t imagine the little boy I used to carry in  my arms, I sing with lullaby, bath and change diapers is now a young man and here you are now, blooming into your own person. I’m so happy and proud of you Bro.

As usual, I have the hardest time trying to figure out what to get Him. I tried to imagine the kind of gift that He would like and that is useful. My brother is not just handsome and smart guy but He is also very talented. He loves to play musical instruments especially the guitar. And He is active in the music ministry in our church. I think I should buy him argosy speaker stands to make His music room more organized and to make it easier for Him to set-up His electric guitar to the speakers every time He wants play with it. It may help and encourage Him to continue to use His talent for God’s glory.

Once again, Congratulations to you my dear Brother. I still remember when you were still very small and if you were asked what you wanted to be when you grow up? You would always answer, When I grow up I want to be a Pilot. You are now in the half way. This is just a break as you enter the new battlefields of life. You are the pilot of your own life, fly and take God as your compass to make your life soar, triumph over adversity, live a happy and fulfilled life. I wish you all the luck for your bright career in future. Just always put God first in everything you do, do your best and God will take care of the rest.

God’s blessing on your journey, Bro. I love you!

Positive Mindset

11039876_836614103042207_5581195606108856852_nI just finished the “Customer Service Skills Training Programme.” A short course conducted by Changi Airport group (CAG) to help us refresh and enhance our knowledge and skills in customer service and to teach us the Changi way of service.

We did a lot of fun and learning activities and one of them was the “positive first impression game.” It involves writing our first impression of someone we meet. The set up of the game – a sheet of paper with our name on top was taped on our back. Each of us have to write in a post-it our positive first impression of the person and paste it on his back. In the picture are my co-participants positive first impressions at me. Receiving their positive impressions made me happy and made my day.

The programme taught us to always have a positive mind-set especially when going to work. Words are a reflection of our thoughts. Positive words come from positive thoughts. It is really that simple. Positive words can bring happiness to people, so always give a positive words to everyone especially at work. It will make them feel happy too. Some people do not realize the words they use and how their words affect others. The feeling is so rewarding when you made a difference in someone else’s day. It can bring good karma and can make your day even more brighter. People who have a positive mind-set achieve more positive outcomes than those with a negative one.

Pet Lover

A lot of people today have such passion of pets. A pet is kept primarily for a person’s company. They are a wonderful companion at home. Dogs are the most popular and common pet found in the households. Dogs are man’s bestfriend. They give happiness and comfort and perform valuable service to their owners. They are loyal, trustworthy and selfless.

My family used to have dogs in the house named Blacky and daughter Browny. They were like part of our family. Blacky was a very good, lovely and loyal dog. She understand and know us based on the tone of our voice and body language. When we come home right when we walk through our door, she would wiggle-wiggle her tail and wrapped our body with sniff & kisses, such a stress reliever. She was our guard in the house. She protect us from bad people and strangers. If someone she’s not familiar attempt to enter in our house, she would bark and would just stop and behave until we tell her to do so. She died of “old age.”

Our mom stop allowing dogs in our house when Browny bit my younger brother while helping release her leg trapped on the chair. Having pet is rewarding but they could be dangerous and harmful if we don’t know how to train and take care of them. If you have pet or just having pet do some research, read pet blog, ask your friends or expert to gain more knowledge on how to take care of them, for your pet and your own sake. Pets aren’t always easy to take care of. It requires time, effort and money but they provide an amazing return of your investments, especially when it comes to our health.

Health is Wealth

I had a lower right abdominal pain for about a day. At first I didn’t pay attention to it for the pain was still tolerable but then when I noticed the pain never go and found myself waking up early at 03:00Hr in the morning because of discomfort, I then decided to go to the hospital to see a doctor. I was worried for the symptoms were likely an appendicitis. The doctor have examined my blood, urine and have made an x-ray of my back and lower abdomen but they found nothing. I was a bit in relief to know that there’s no findings but I was wondering what was the caused of the pain.? Maybe I should assume it was just a muscle strain and peptic ulcer from jogging and working-out with a stomach empty before I had the pain. The doctor recommended me to undergo a “CT scan” but I refused when I came to know the amount I have to pay. It’s too much for me, it was almost half of my salary and that time I didn’t have that amount of money in my pocket. The doctor then asked me to sign a waiver and then gave me some medicines. The pain was gone the next day. Thanks God for the healing mercy.

I just realized there is nothing in our life which is more valuable than “good health.” Sometimes we work so hard to earn money that we even forget to take a rest. Our body is not indestructible if we don’t take care of our body it will just give up one day and the money we earned through hard work will only be spent for hospitalization or medications, our work will get affected until we lost our job and so as our income. Our precious time will be wasted lying down in bed instead of enjoying it, spending it with our love ones. We can’t do much and we become less productive. Everything we have – money, time and even possessions will all get into waste if we get sick. There’s no happiness & peace but pain, sufferings and expenses. We need more money for health and we must also find ways to get more health for the money.

I remember what my colleague have said. We called Him uncle for He is the oldest employee in our company. He is already 64yrs old but still fit and kicking. He works just for fun. He is funny, always giving foods to everyone and love to make dirty jokes but I learned something from Him.

He told me while I’m still young and have job I must take care of my future. I must invest on two things…Money and Health. Money to use to survive and sustain a comfortable life when I become old and jobless. And health as we get older our body inevitably start getting slower and weaker but atleast if we take care of our health we can remain fit and away from illness until we are very old. To stay fit and healthy,  I must exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, stay away from bad habits like drinking and smoking and of course enough sleep and rest. Remember our health, our future depends on how we live today.

Have a happy and healthy life…Life is beautiful!!!

In today’s competitive and modern business world, it is highly essential to adhere with professional appearance and grooming especially if you work in the frontline. Uniform and grooming is very important as it plays a key part in projecting a professional image. Being well-groomed and uniform professional will influence guests perception of the company and it will create not just a positive impression but it will also build guest’s confidence and respect to the staff.

Every semester our company is issuing a uniform which is a 3 pairs of shoes, 4 set of blazer & skirt, 4 pcs scarf and 1 1/2 dozen of stocking to ensure that our uniform always looks good and brand new. Uniform is our identity that we are a staff of the company, so we must present a neat and tidy appearance to uphold company’s image. Professional appearance is an indication that we take care of ourselves and the company.

Proper grooming make our best image and personality shines. Present yourself in the best possible way. One of our company’s grooming guidelines is to wear make-up. Make-up is a mandatory as we know it enhance our appearance. Lipstick must be red to make our smile visible even from afar. Hair must not cover the face, if reaching shoulder length must be tied up in a ponytail. For accessories, only 1 pair of simple ear studs is allowed, 1pc of watch, 1pc necklace, maximum 2pcs of gold or silver bracelets, and maximum of 3 rings including engagement and wedding ring. I like rings and I love to wear at work the rings my boyfriend gave me. He knows where to find the best selection of class rings. For nails must be kept clean and neat. Nail polish is permitted as long as no crytal jewels, nail art design and extreme color.

Above all, Smile is part of the uniform. It is the most important uniform to wear. Greet everyone with a smile. When you’re smiling’ the whole world smiles with you. First impressions last. First impressions matter and the way you look, act and carry yourself create impact on people you get along with in the work setting. Your smile can brighten up someone’s day. Create a beautiful and happy environment at work…..S_M_I_L_E ! It feels good.

A Token Of Appreciation

My hard work has paid off.

One passenger that I’ve checked-in a week ago sent me a “token of appreciation” in the office today. I got surprised for I didn’t expect it. I am so happy not only because of the items, a pedicure tools here that I received but for the thought that she’s delighted with the service I provided and that “I am appreciated”. Everyday at work we usually often encounter rude and peevish passengers and only few are kind to give compliments. It really feels good to be complimented. It inspire us to work best.

This passenger was checking-in on flight SQ221 @ 2010 hrs to Sydney . She came to my counter with her eyes a bit swollen. She made a last-minute booking for her mother was in a very critical condition in the hospital and was waiting for her to come. She was scared and nervous might she won’t see her mom alive. The flight was completely full so her booking was only on a “waitlist” meaning she has to wait until flight finalized and in case there’s any unclaimed or available seat then it will be given to her but if all showed up then there’s no way she can get on to the flight. I can feel the pain she’s going through and I wanted to help her but I can’t do anything, it’s out of my hand. Passenger tried to book to other airlines but they were also full.

I  tried to find alternatives. I checked the next available flight which was SQ231 after midnight flight and found out it was also full but still have two seats available. I asked my Duty Manager if I could take the passenger on the flight and I got permission so I offered the passenger the after midnight flight. Passenger was happy to know that we can confirm her on the next flight. I was happy too. I thought her problem solved but when I tried to take her as “go show” on the next flight I couldn’t due to some ticket issues. Her booking was an airline frequent flyer redemption and so was not ticketed. I had to call “Krisflyer redemption Office”  to rebook and issue her a ticket. Krisflyer side was also very helpful even though it’s so complicated making a  redemption booking on the spot especially when the flight is full but Krisflyer made it. It took so long before everything get settled. Thanks God madam was able to fly. I hope all goes well with her mom. I finished a bit late but t’was fine. I didn’t regret getting stuck helping her. You know that feeling when you helped and made someone smile and happy, it’s the best feeling.

Make life beautiful for others! Put a smile on your their faces.

Kung Hei Fat Choi

Kung Hei Fat Choi (gōng xǐ fā cái) is traditional Chinese New Year greeting meaning: Congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!

Chinese all around the world are celebrating “Chinese New Year” today. It is the most important traditional festival for Chinese. It’s the time for family to be together whenever they are people come home to celebrate the festival with families and have the traditional “Reunion Dinner” or so-called “Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner”.

Last night, I have been invited to join a Chinese new year’s eve dinner by my boyfriend’s brother-in-law, whose a Chinese. I am honored and feel like a member of their family. I’ve tasted a lot of delicious Chinese delicacies and I’ve got to try “Yu Sheng” a salad dish comprising thin slice of raw fish and various spices and sauces, with colorful shredded vegetables, chopped nuts, bits of pomelo, candied citrus peel and etc., mixed as we tossed the ingredients together using chopsticks while shouting good luck wishes. It is traditionally served only during Chinese New year.

The Chinese culture is rich with symbolism and superstition especially when it comes to Chinese new year. One of those is the cleaning of the house to sweep away all ill-fortune and making way for incoming luck. Door and windows are decorated with red color paper-cuts or couplet which symbolizes “good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity”. I also observed they’re giving away a pair of orange and tangerine. Chinese associating the gift of orange and tangerine as having an abundance of happiness and prosperity. I received one pair from my company.

Chinese new year won’t be complete without giving & receiving “Ang Pao or Hongbao”. It is a small red paper envelop inserted with money. It is a monetary gift which is given during holidays or any special occasions like weddings that usually given out buy married couple mostly to single people. The Dragon/Lion dance show and fireworks display which are thought to bring good luck make the festival more fun & exciting.

Cheers!
